Ebert-Groener agreement
Army agrees to support new government and maintain security. In return, Ebert agrees to oppose spread of revolutionary socialism and preserve army authority.
Stinnes-Legion agreement
Trade union leaders Stinnes and Legion agree not to interfere with private ownership and free market. In return, Ebert agrees to workers’ committees; 8 hour days and recognises trade union movements.
What did the far left and Spartacists League want?
- a Soviet rather than an elected parliament
- Red Army or workers’ militia
- nationalisation of all medium to large sized farms.
Why did the independent socialists resign from the council?
No reforms such as socialisation of industry or creation of workers’ militia took place.
What happened in the first communist revolt?
5th Jan 1919, attempted to seize power in Berlin. Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg murdered on 15th Jan.
What did the intervention of the Freikorps confirm?
The army was an undemocratic force
What did Luttwitz do when the government began to disband the Freikorps?
called for Ebert’s resignation. One of the Freikorps marched into Berlin and declared Kapp as chancellor.
How did the Kapp Putsch come to an end?
trade unions organised a national strike
