The Water Cycle Flashcards

1
Q

Earth is a close system what does this mean?

A

This means that very little matter including water ever enters or leaves the atmosphere

Q

What is evaporation

A

The sun heats the water in oceans, lakes and rivers and turns it into gas called water vapour. What are vapour rises into the air.

Q

What is condensation

A

As water vapour rises into the air, it cools down and changes into tiny drops of water. When these drops gather together, we see them as the clouds. The jobs are so small and light they can float into the air.

Q

What is precipitation

A

When where at is forced to rise into the cooler part of the atmosphere, the tiny water drops in cloud join together and become heavier. They fall onto the ground or into oceans, rivers and lakes as rain, snow or hail

Q

What is infiltration

A

When water lands on the ground as precipitation, some of it soaks into the soil.

Q

What is run off

A

Some precipitation that falls to the ground also flows into rivers, lakes and oceans

Q

What is transpiration

A

Plants and animals (Including humans) are also part of the water cycle. Plans take in water from the ground and it passes through their lives where it evaporates into the air
