The Water Cycle Flashcards
The water cycle
The water cycle is the. Repeated movement of water through the environment in different ways.
Condensation
Condensation is when water vapor turns into a liquid, such as water droplets in a cloud.
Evaporation
Evaporation is the changing of liquid water to water vapor.
Runoff
Runoff is water moving downhill.
Precipitation
Precipitation is water falling from clouds as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.
Sublimation
Sublimation is ice changing to water vapor without melting.
Water vapor
Water vapor is water in the form of a gas.
Transpiration
Transpiration is when a plant ‘sweats”.
Fog
Fog is a cloud that forms at ground level.
Cumulus
Small, white cotton ball look-alike; mid altitude; brings fair weather.
Stratus
Looks like a gray blanket covering the sky; brings light rain/drizzle; low altitude cloud.
Cirrus
Thin, wispy, and white feather looking cloud; brings fair weather; high altitude cloud.
Cumulonimbus
Can be very dark in color, stretches from 1,000 to 12,000 meters, brings thunderstorms.
Rain
Rain is snow that has melted, because of temperatures above freezing, while falling.
Snow
Snow is ice crystals falling without being changed.
