The Water Cycle Flashcards
List the 8 labels needed for a picture of the water cycle
The Water Cycle (heading underlined)
- Precipitation (rain)
- Surface run-off
- Infiltration (water going into the ground)
- Ground water store (water held underground)
- Transpiration (water given off by plants)
- Evaporation
- Warm air rises
- Condensation (draw three squiggly lines)
What is another name for rain/snow (water coming down from clouds) and can you spell it
Precipitation
What is water called that runs over the ground and not in a river
Surface run-off
What is it called when water sinks into the ground
Infiltration
What is it called when water sits under the ground
Ground water store
What is it called when plants give off water
Transpiration
What is it called when water dries up due to the sun
Evaporation
What happens to water when warm air rises
Water is taken up in the form of evaporation when warm air rises and it eventually forms clouds
Describe the water cycle / what is the water cycle
The earth has a limited amount of water.
The water keeps going round and round.
In the water cycle the water moves from the land to the sea (along rivers) to the air (evaporation and trspiration) and back to land again (rain and snow).
Water changes state in the water cycle - it evaporates (up into the sky); it condenses, freezes (eg snow) and it melts eg melting snow.
