The View That God Is Timeless (Atemporal) Flashcards
Augustine, Boethius, Anselm, Aquinas and ? held the view that God exists outside time, which is an aspect of the created world, like space, showing that God’s not ?
Schleiermacher.
Limited.
God’s omnipotence isn’t threatened if God’s not bound by the constraints of time, allowing for the belief that God’s ? which’s argued by some thinkers to be necessary if God’s perfect.
Immutable.
People who support the idea that God’s eternal argue that if God were bound by time, he’d be limited. A God who was ? rather than atemporal wouldn’t meet Anselm’s God is TTWNGCBC as he would be able to conceive of a greater being than one who was constrained by having to exist within time.
Sempiternal.
Those who defend the view that God’s outside time argue that other concepts of God’s relationship with time don’t recognise the uniqueness of God. There are things that are possible for God because of the unique nature of his existence, even if we can’t see how they’re possible with out ? ?
Limited understanding.
