What happened at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu?

A

A small French air force base at Dien Bien Phu, occupied by 10,000 French soldiers, were surrounded by 50,000 Vietminh troops.
Their runway was destroyed and French soldiers were attacked
On the 7th May 1954, the French surrendered because neither the Americans nor British would help.
They soon began to run out of food, water and medical supplies.
