The use of linked markers in genetic disease Flashcards

1
Q

What are the principles of genetic linkage?

A
  • The tendency for alleles at neighbouring loci to segregate together at meiosis is the phenomenon of genetic linkage
  • therefore to be linked, two loci must be very close together
  • Alleles at linked loci = haplotype - mark chromosomal segments which can be tracked through pedigrees and poplns
  • Cross-overs are more likely to occur in loci that are further away

Q

How do we calculate the recombination frequency?

A
  • RF - number of recombinants / number of recombinants + number of non-recombinants
