  • constitution meeting of 13 original brit colonies
  • Gathered to: unite them n make them stronger because they were only 13 colonies
  • at same time, wanted to keep sovereignty within future states- federal system

  • Trying to find way to be together but not lose sovereignty
  • Federal system: central gov + central gov delegates powers to states
  • This system is called VERTICAL separation of power (UK has HORIZONTOL)

A

-Constitution was not providing/mentioning any protection to the rights of individuals + therefore adopted 10 amendments that refer to individual rights
eg right to speech, freedom of religion etc
