- The Army Reserve only answers to the Federal government, while the National Guard answers to both the Federal and State governments
- The Army reserve generally consists of Combat Support and Combat Service Support Units, while the Army National Guard contains all Combat units as well
What is the Army’s Mission?
to deploy, fight, and win our Nation’s wars by providing ready, prompt, and sustained land dominance by Army forces across the full spectrum of conflict as part of the joint force.
Why is the Army’s Mission vital to the Nation?
We are a Service capable of defeating enemy ground forces and indefinitely seizing and controlling those things an adversary prizes most—its land, its resources, and its population.
What is the Army Vision?
The Army of 2028 will be ready to deploy, fight, and win decisively against any adversary,
anytime and anywhere, in a joint, multi-domain, high-intensity conflict, while
simultaneously deterring others and maintaining its ability to conduct irregular warfare.
The Army will do this through the employment of modern manned and unmanned ground
combat vehicles, aircraft, sustainment systems, and weapons, coupled with robust
combined arms formations and tactics based on a modern warfighting doctrine and
centered on exceptional Leaders and Soldiers of unmatched lethality.
What is an IBCT?
An Infantry Brigade Combat Team is an expeditionary, combined arms formation optimized for dismounted operations in complex terrain—a geographical area consisting of an urban center larger than a village and/or of two or more types of restrictive terrain or environmental conditions occupying the same space
What is “Fire and Movement”
Fire and movement is the concept of applying fires from all sources to suppress, neutralize, or destroy the enemy, and the tactical movement of combat forces in relation to the enemy (as components of maneuver applicable at all echelons). At the squad level, fire and
movement entails a team placing suppressive fire on the enemy as another team moves against or
around the enemy.

A Stryker Brigade Combat Team is an expeditionary combined arms force organized around mounted Infantry.
What is Key Terrain?

What is the Role of an ABCT?
The Armored Brigade Combat Team’s role is to close with the enemy by means of fire and movement to destroy or capture enemy forces, or to repel enemy attacks by fire, close combat, and counterattack to control land areas, including populations and resources.
What are the Soldier’s Rules on the battlefield?
- Soldiers fight only enemy combatants.
- Soldiers do not harm enemies who surrender. They disarm them and turn them over to their superior.
- Soldiers do not kill or torture any personnel in their custody.
- Soldiers collect and care for the wounded, whether friend or enemy.
- Soldiers do not attack medical personnel, facilities, or equipment.
- Soldiers destroy no more than the mission requires.
- Soldiers treat civilians humanely.
- Soldiers respect private property and possessions.
- Soldiers should do their best to prevent violations of the law of war.
- Soldiers report all violations of the law of war to their superior.
