Q

Outline two characteristics of God:

A

God is omniscient (all knowing), meaning that he knows what you have done and what you will do. He knows the present, the past and the future. God is omnibenevolent (all loving), meaning that he will forgive your sins because he loved the world so much.

Q

Choose one religion (CHRISTIANITY). Outline two religious beliefs about creation.

A

One belief may be the creation story in GENESIS, where God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th day. This may display God’s omnipotence as he has the power to create a universe using his own hands.

Another belief may be the fact that God made mankind in his image (imago dei), cementing the relationship between God and man, and how we are meant to be stewards of God on Earth.

Q

Choose one religion (CHRISTIANITY). Outline two religious beliefs about human nature.

A

One religious belief about human nature would be St Augustine’s idea of original sin and The Fall, and how we as mankind are born inherently evil, due to the events that occured in the Garden of Eden. Due to these events, we are born with akrasia, or a weakening of will.

Another religious belief about human nature would be Aquinas’ idea of synderesis and ratio, opposing Augustine’s idea of akrasia and original sin, as it mentions that ratio is a gift from God and that synderesis is your soul tending towards the good, suggesting that human nature is inherently good.

Q

Choose one religion (CHRISTIANITY). Outline two teachings about sin.

A

One Christian teaching about sin may be that if you accept and believe in Jesus Christ, your sins will be forgiven and that if you believe in Jesus and repent, you will be rewarded with eternal life in heaven.

Another Christian teaching about sin would be the opposite of the previous statement, if you don’t believe in Jesus Christ, you will be sentenced to eternal damnation in Hell, as all your sins haven’t been forgiven and you are seen as evil.

Q

Choose one religion (CHRISTIANITY). Outline two views on the causes of sin.

A

One Christian view about the causes of sin may be Augustine’s idea of ‘Original Sin’, where all of humanity is seen as inherently evil because of the events of ‘The Fall’ that occurred in the Garden of Eden. Because of these events, we are all born with akrasia, or the weakening of will.

Another Christian view about the causes of sin may be the idea of ignorance, especially vincible ignorance, which means that someone has done something wrong when they ought to have known better, meaning that the sin caused could’ve been avoided because the people should’ve known better. The opposite would be invincible ignorance, which is when someone does something wrong when they couldn’t have known better.

Q

Outline two arguments for belief of God.

A

One argument for the belief of God may be the idea of religious experiences, where a person feels like they’ve had a direct/personal experience with God, thus giving them belief for the existence of God.

Another belief for the belief of God may be the idea that we as mankind want to achieve salvation after we pass away due to eschatological uncertainty, and the fact that we don’t want to be sentenced to eternal damnation after we die.
