What is the Doppler effect?
The change in frequency due to an object moving towards or away from an observer.
What happens to the wave and frequency when a car making noise drives away from someone?
The wavelength gets longer and the frequency gets smaller.
What happens when a car making noise drives towards you?
The wavelength of sound gets shorter and the frequency gets higher.
What is Red-Shift?
Light from far away galaxies that has shifted to the end of the spectrum
Which galaxies are moving fastest?
The ones that are furthest away.
How does RS show that the universe is expanding?
Further the galaxy away, the more redshifted it is by being expanded.
What is the Big Bang?
Evidence to say that the universe has continued to expand from one small point.
What is Cosmic Background Radiation?
Where the big bang happened and gamma radiation came out, but has stretched to become microwave radiation.
What is red and blue shift?
Red ⬅️ (Galaxy) ➡️ Blue
- spread out - closer together
- low frequency - if to come towards us
- long wavelength
