Q
Summary
A
- “The women in this department are breaking gender rules constantly. But instead of justifying their breaches of norms by acting like men – as is a frequent impulse in academic medicine – they remain unapologetically, unashamedly, unmistakably women in all that they do”
- These women are the best role model for a transgender individual, particularly one looking to tackle the “cistem” of health care

Q
Summary pt. 2
A
- These women have helped the author realize that their initial approach was initially inconsistent. Attempting to remove gender from health care in the name of inclusivity is actually counterproductive to the author’s cause
- Removing gendered language actually allows the gender binary/gender bias in medicine to continue, unchecked.
- Instead of stripping all references to gender in their medical care, professionals should create space for people of all genders and no gender to provide and receive care–without apologies, limitations, or excuses
