The muder of Frenz Ferdinand on 28 June 1914 whichset off a chain of events that led to war was some were * patriotism* and nationalism because Britain and Germany both believed they were the best countries and they were offended that another country had made that claim. War was a way for them to prove who was more powerfu.

A

how?
. They used the effect of conscription
. men aged up to 18 and 41 could be forced to join the army
.also the propaganda - by making posters aimed atmen who love their country and thier king, feel guilty for not joining up to persuade them

why?
. because if they didn’t they would be
starved,
beaten
placed in solitary confinement in filthy cells.
they were put in cages like animals or thrown into sewage ponds.
