The Tongue_Speech Flashcards
Put off rotten - put on edification
Eph 4:29
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
No filthy talk or jokes
Eph 5:4
and there must be no filthiness and silly talk,
or coarse jesting,
which are not fitting,
but rather giving of thanks.
Real problem of the tongue: the heart
Lk 6:45
The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good;
and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil;
for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.
Accountable for our speech
Mat 12:36
But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.
Defiles us and ruins our life
Ja 3:6
And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity;
the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body,
and sets on fire the course of our life,
and is set on fire by hell.
Watch your mouth
Ps 141:3
Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth;
Keep watch over the door of my lips.
Calm down - gentle words
Prv 15:1
A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.
Speaking less is wise
Prv 10:19
When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, But he who restrains his lips is wise.
Restrain your speech
Prv 17:27-28
27 He who restrains his words has knowledge, And he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding. 28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; When he closes his lips, he is considered prudent.
Ja 1:19
This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger
