• The VC attacked over 100 cities and military targets.
• Saigon (capital of S. Vietnam) was almost captured.
• Ancient cities were destroyed and many civilians were killed upon US recapture.
• It was the turning point of the war as, despite US predictions, the VC was still a very strong force capable of organising massive offensives. It seemed the Communists could not be beaten.
