What are the ‘Ten Commandments’?
They are ‘rules’ set by God that each have values.
You shall not have strange gods before me. (Commandment)
Trust/Faith in God.
You shall not take the Lord’s name in vain. (Commandment)
Respect for God and others.
Keep the Lord’s day holy. (Commandment)
Rest, balance, prayer.
Honour your father and mother. (Commandment)
Respect for family.
You shall not kill. (Commandment)
Respect for human life.
You shall not steal. (Commandment)
Justice, honesty, respect for others.
You shall not commit adultery. (Commandment)
Keep promises, commitment, faithfulness.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour. (Commandment)
Truth, honesty, goodness. DO NOT LIE.
You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife. (Commandment)
Generosity, respect, no jealousy.
You shall not covet your neighbour’s goods. (Commandment)
Generosity, no jealousy.
Blessed are the poor in spirit. (Beatitude)
We can look after those who are poor (lacking money), and those poor in spirit (missing something in life, eg. family).
Blessed are the gentle. (Beatitude)
Be gentle and treat others with kindness, patience, and compassion. We should help others.
Blessed are those who mourn. (Beatitude)
Accept the times of sadness in our lives. Courage.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. (Beatitude)
