Induction Part I
Sly drunk and Hostess wants to throw him out coz he broke her glasses. Sly falls asleep and Lord enters and decides to play ‘Mad Lord for 10 years’ trick on him.
Induction Part II
Bart = Sly’s wife and Sly confused through stories told by Lord and convinced he’s not a tinker but a Lord. Actors come and offer to perform ‘history’ play for Sly.
Act I Scene I
Lucentio + Tranio entrance to Padua. Introduction of Baptista, Bianca, Katherina, Hortensio and Gremio with Baptista’s intention to let Kate marry first but gives Bianca tutors. Lucentio infatuated with Bianca + decide to be tutor w/ Hortensio.
Biondello entrance + confused to exchange of clothes = Lucentio ‘on the run’ for murder with Tranio as saviour
Act I Scene II
Petruchio entrance – looking for wife. Hortensio tells of rich wife, Katherina – Petruchio agrees.
Hortensio asks help from Petruchio for courting Bianca = tutor for Bianca (L done same to Gremio).
Men luck for Petruchio in courting Kate but Petruchio cocky. Tranio = Lucentio + Suitor for Bianca
Act II Scene I
Katherina hurts Bianca over suitors and her possible marriage – Baptista favours Bianca over Kate.
Gremio arrival with Cambio (L) + Petruchio with Licio (H) as gift for marrying Kate permission but Baptista warn Petruchio. Tranio = Baptista accept him as Bianca suitor = books + lute.
Petruchio + Baptista haggle over dowry. Licio try lute teaching with Katherina but Katherina aggressive = happy Petruchio over challenge of Kate. Sparks and fireworks between Petruchio + Kate’s first meeting + declaration of marriage on Sunday.
Gremio + Tranio argue over Bianca’s hand – Baptista = biggest dowry wins. Tranio wins on condition of Father entrance to confirm dowry possible.
Act III Scene I
L + H argue over Bianca teaching – Bianca asserts dominance & wants L’s lesson first which reveals true identity. Bianca thinks it’s sus but L asks her to trust him.
Music lesson with Hortensio tries to reveal identity but Bianca sly – does not understand and then interrupted by servant to help prepare for Kate’s wedding.
H notice ‘Cambio’ in live with Bianca and doubts his hope in pursuing her if she’s playing the field.
Act III Scene II
Gathered for wedding – Petruchio late + Kate humiliated but then Petruchio enters in bizarre clothing + Baptista = shocked.
Tranio tells Lucentio of plan to find ‘fake father’ – Lucentio wonders if elopement better.
Gremio return from church to tell of bizarre wedding – Petruchio weird behaviour + not staying for wedding feast with immediate return to Verona. Baptista declare it as practise for Bianca and ‘Lucentio’
Act IV Scene I
Petruchio’s home in Verona – Gremio + servants prepare for master’s arrival + gossiping. Grumio tell Curtis of change in Kate by Petruchio – Horrible journey + fall from horse + beating of Grumio.
Arrival = Petruchio rude to all, demands food + water but sends away once arrived. Declares start of taming process through starvation and sleep deprivation of Kate.
Act IV Scene II
H + T watch L teach Bianca about Art of Love – H shocked by infidelity of Bianca so reveal identity. T convinces H to give up love of Bianca with him. H decides to marry wealthy Widow – T teases of H taming coz he’s been to P’s school.
Biondello arrival to find ‘fake’ Vincentio + finds Pedant and asks to disguise to save L’s life + reassure Baptista of L’s financial status.
Act IV Scene III
Kate deprived of food + sleep = distress but P declares its love. Asks Grumio for help but he teases her instead. P + H arrive with meat & Kate thanks them reluctantly.
P tells Kate to eat before they go to maternal home wearing extravagant clothes + jewellery. Tailor + Haberdasher entrance w/ gown + hat but sent away by P under guise of being ‘lewd’ but are still paid secretly by H on P’s orders.
About to go when P = 7am but K = 2pm and so contradiction by Kate = reprimand by P over his authority.
Act IV Scene IV
T arrive for Pedant to meet Baptista – T encourages Pedant to improvise and act good to convince Baptista – both convinced, and go to sign docs @ L’s house.
Baptista sends Cambio to tell Bianca of marriage to ‘L’ but Biondello tells L of T’s arrangement so L + Bianca can elope whilst Baptista is distracted.
Act IV Scene V
Set off for Padua – P comment on ‘moon’ though K contradicts with ‘sun’ and P threatens to return home. H pleads to K, & K gives in to P’s authority and nonsense .
Entrance of real Vincentio going to meet L & P calls him a woman + K joins in. Then P calls her mad & says he’s a old guy and K apologises. P tells V of L’s planned marriage to Bianca.
Act V Scene I
L + Bianca elope before P + K + real V arrive. Pedant meets V and both fight over who is the intruder – V is shocked over L’s actions.
T + Pedant maintain lie – V accuses T of killing L and T calls Officer to take V to prison. L + Bianca return.
T + Pedant run away. L asks for V’s forgiveness but V angry with T.
P asks K to kiss him + she agrees. Comment on pleasantness of life when all are of one mind.
Act V Scene II
Wedding banquet for L + Bianca + P + K. Couples joke + tease with P mocking H for widow. Decide on bet for most obedient wife.
Bianca busy and Widow won’t come but all shocked when Kate immediately comes.
P wins bet and asks K to bring other two women to describe their duty towards husbands. P celebration of being winner & goes to bed with K.
