The Tale of Snow White - Mother Flashcards
Memorize all lines.
Mom!
What’s going on here?
-and there’s no way that’s true!
Whoa… whoa… whoa! What’s this about? The story of Snow White?
Yes!
Well there is one way to resolve this. Let’s see what the Grimm brothers have to say, shall we?
The who?
The Brother’s Grimm. They wrote the story. (sit) Here it is! “Once upon a time, in the middle of winter, when the flakes of snow were falling like feathers from the sky…”
You are so immature.
Would you two listen? “Soon after that, she had a little daughter…”
She shall be named Snow White to remind us of the queen’s wish.
“After some time, the king took himself another wife. She was a beautiful woman, but she was proud and arrogant, and she could not stand it if anyone might surpass her in beauty. She had a magic mirror…”
Her stare makes you quake.
“Snow White grew up and became ever more beautiful. When she was seven years old, she was already as beautiful as the light of day. Her beauty continued to grow until one day she was even more beautiful than the queen herself.”
After Mirror’s rap.
“From that hour on, whenever the queen looked at Snow White, her heart turned over inside her body, so great was her hatred for the girl. The envy and pride grew ever greater, like a weed in her heart, until she had no peace, day and night.”
Mom, what does that mean?
It means the queen was really jealous and every day it got worse.
After huntsman leaves.
(Offstage) “The huntsman obeyed and took Snow White into the woods…”
After dwarfs sleep.
“When Snow White woke up, the dwarves asked her who she was and how she had found her way to their house. She told them how her stepmother had tried to kill her, how the hunstman had spared her life, and how she had run the entire day, finally coming to their house. The dwarves pitied her and invited her to stay.”
Oh, brother.
“Now the queen believed that the huntsman had brought her the lungs and liver of Snow white. The queen didn’t know the huntsman had bought the liver and lungs at the farmer’s market, and she could only think that she was the first and most beautiful woman of all…”
No!! That cannot be!
And now I think…
Please! Read on.
I will. I just thought it would be nice to stop for a snack.
Yay!
Please join us for refreshments during this ten minute intermission.
After intermission,
“When the evil queen heard that Snow White was alive and well and living with the dwarves, she thought and thought again about how she could kill her…”
Isn’t that against the law?
What’s against the law?
Now be quiet and listen!`
Peggy Sue, there is a nice way to tell someone to stop talking.
But Mom, it doesn’t work with her.
Yes it does. Benny, yes it is against the law. And Benny, hush now.
Can I ask one more thing?
Fine, what’s up?
Mom, Peggy Sue just called me ugh!
Do you two want me to keep reading? Then no more fighting. “In the meantime, the word about Snow White’s arrival was starting to fly around the local dwarf village.”
Bye-bye!
And the all lived… (kids join) …happily ever after!
