What was the stamp act?
A tax Britain put on colonists to help pay for the french and Indian war.
When was the French and Indian War?
The French and Indian War was between 1754 and 1763.
Why did the British government put on this tax? What were they thinking when they did it?
The British government put on this tax to have the colonists pay the money from the war. They thought that the colonies should pay for the British soldiers that had been sent over to help fight the war.
What did the colonists think about this tax?
the colonists believed that the British government had no right to tax them because there were no colonists in the British parliament.
What did the colonists say?
¨No Taxation Without Representation!¨
Why didn´t the colonists like that they were the ones being taxed?
Because they fought the French and Indian War, so they shouldn´t have to pay money for it. Some colonists even lost their lives in that war.
What did the colonists form during this time?
because the colonists were so upset about the stamp act, They formed the stamp act congress.
What was the stamp act congress?
The stamp act congress was a group of representatives (one from each colony) that met from October 7th to October 25th in 1765 to discuss what to do about the stamp act.
What is the Sons of Liberty?
The sons of liberty is a group of American Patriots that formed during the time of the stamp act.
What did the Sons of Liberty do?
They protested British taxes in the streets and intimidated tax collectors into quitting their jobs.
Was the Sons of Liberty important?
Yes. They played a big role in the American Revolution.
When did the British government repeal the stamp act?
On March 18th, 1766.
Why did the British government repeal the Stamp act?
Because the colonists´ protests began to hurt British merchants and businesses.
What act did the British Government pass the same day the Stamp act was repealed?
the Declaratory act.
What was the Declaratory act?
An act that said that the British Parliament had the right to make laws and taxes in the colonies.
