Meaning of government
A group of people in a country who set the policies and make laws to control how a country operates and functions efficiently
Government’s responsibility
Responsible for making sure that order is kept amongst the citizens of a country and that everyone follows the laws of the constitution
Municipality
A district or town with a local government
Household
Consumers who buy products from businesses
Businesses
Producers who sell products to the household/consumer
Democracy
A system in government where all the South African citizens can vote for the political party that they want to govern the country
Mayor’s responsibility
To preside at council netting and to act as head of city for ceremonial purposes and for purposes of military law. The mayor votes as a council member and does not have any veto power
Premier
The person who is head of governmentms the province. The premier plays a role similar to that played by the president for the country as a whole
Three levels of government
National government- service the whole country
Provincial government- service the province
Local government- service the local town
Three branches of the national government
Legislative branch- describes the body in a country that has the power to make the laws and set the policies for the South African constitution
Executive branch- describes the body that execute and carry out the countries laws and policies
Judicial branch- describes the body that makes sure that if anyone disobeys the laws and policies of a country that they will be punished
South African constitution
The South African constitution if the supreme law of the land
It provides the legal foundation of the South African republic and sets out the rights and duties of citizens
It also defines the structure of the government
Governments Responsible areas
National government- ANC. ( African national congress)
Provincial government- DA. ( democratic alliance)
Local government- municipality
