Who distinguishes between primary and secondary socialisation and what did they say?

A

American sociologist, Charles cooley.
primary= includes those involved in small scale interaction e.g.the family and other closely-knit groups. learn love, loyalty. sharing, and justice.
secondary= less personal, more formal and exist for specific purposes eg school.

Briefly describe the case of the wolf children

A
  • 2 girls were raised by a she-wolf
    -1920- someone saw a mother wolf and cubs, 2 of whom looked human
  • after alot of preparation n difficulties the 2 girls were captured.
  • they were taken to an orphanage in india n were described as wolfish.
  • they walked on all 4s n had calluses, were fond of raw meat n licked all liquids w their tongues n ate their food crouched n they panted just like wolves
    -They had all the characteristics attributed to wolves
    -in sept 1921 bothe girls became ill n the younger one died
  • after 5 yr at orphanage older girl showed some intellectual function, she understood colour, names, ate from a palte etc n she could speak a little

What were the findings of the Folk Devils and Moral panics study?

A

Stan Cohen (1972) researched the fights in English seaside resorts on bank holidays , between 2 youth subcultures mods n rockers. 1960s- Bank holiday meet up of 2 groups n scuffles/argument broke out. national newspapers exaggerated what had happened n cohen researched what was happening n found that the media created a moral panic n exaggerated responses.

What is cultural diversity?

A

it describes the difference in the norms, values, customs and tradition between different societies. Other cultures may appear strange if we have closeted lives, but they’re just a different way of life. culture changes over time, acceptable changes to unacceptable n vice versa,
