Contracts all at once to generate heat causing hairs to stand up.
Hair Follicle
Manufactures hair fibre and secretes oil.
Sweat Gland
Thermoregulation. Produces sweat to cool the body when evaporated.
Cutaneous Plexus (artery & vein)
Carries oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. Keeps the body at a constant temperature.
Fat
Helps to insulate the body.
Sweat Gland Duct
Helps carry the sweat to sweat pore.
Nerve Fibres
Activate muscles and glands. Relay messages from sensory cells to the brain.
Sweat Pore
Secretes sweat to cool the body.
Lamellated Corpuscle
Nerve ending responsible for sensitivity to vibration and pressure.
Hypodermis
Provides insulation and padding for the body.
Dermis
Consists of papillary layer and reticular layer. Allows the skin to flex with movement and return to normal shape.
Epidermis
Made up of epithelium and contains keratinocytes, melanocytes, langerhans cells and merkel cells. Protects & acts as a barrier against germs.
