The shoulder- Exam 3 Flashcards
Supraspinatus
O: supraspinous fossa of scap
I: upper greater tubercle
Action: Abduction of humerus (down low- first 60 degrees of ROM
**does not do external rotation
Infraspinatus
O: infraspinous fossa of scap
I: middle of greater tubercle
Action: external rotation, adduction, and extension of the humerus
Teres Minor
O: lateral border of scap
I: inferior greater tubercle
Action: External rotation and adduction of the humerus
**comes to the outside to do ER
Subscapularis
O: costal (anterior) surface of scap
I: lesser tubercle of humerus
Action: internal rotation; can flex extend, adduct or abduct the humerus–depending on the position of the humerus
Teres Major
O: inferior angle, lateral border of scap
I: crest of lesser tubercle
Action: internal rotation, adduction, extension of the humerus
Biceps Brachii (long head)
O: supraglenoid tubercle
I: radius
Action: elbo flexion, shoulder flexion, supination
**can do horizontal flexion
Biceps Brachii (short head)
O: coracoid process of scap
I: radius
Action: shoulder flexion, elbow flexion, and supination
Triceps Brachii (long head)
O: infraglenoid tubercle
I: olecranon process of ulna
Action: elbow extension, shoulder extension
Pectoralis Major
O: clavicle, sternum 2-7 ribs and muscles
I: greater tuberosity of the humerus
Action: horizontal flexion for the clavicular fibers; cross body chop for sternal fibers
Deltoid
O: clavicle, acromion, spine of the scap
I: deltoid tuberosity
Action: compression superiorly
**anterior part: flexion, horizontal flexion, IR, and abduction of GH joint
**middle part:abduction of GH joint, compression at 90 degrees laterally
**posterior part: extension, horizontal extension,ER, and abduction of GH joint
Coracobraachialis
O: coracoid process of scap
I: medial surface, 1/2 down the humerus
Action: flexion and adduction of GH joint
*functional in horizontal flexxion
Pectoralis Minor
O: 2-5 ribs
I: coracoid process of scap
Action: depression and anterior tilt of soap, downward rotation
Trapezius
O: occiput, nuchal lig, spinous processes of C7-T12
I: distal end of clavicle, acromion and spine of scap
Action:
*upper: elevation and upward rotation
*middle: retraction of scap
*lower: depression, upward or downward rotation depending on attachment pt
Serratus Anterior
O: 1-9 ribs
I: medial-anterior border of scap
Action: protraction, abduction, upward rotation of the scap
Rhomboids (Major and Minor)
O: nuchal lig, spinous process of C6-T4
I: medial border of the scap
Action: retraction, elevation, downward rotation
