Q

How does screwtape want people to define real life? What does he have to gain from this definition?

A
  • screwtape wants people to think of real life as the things that they can perceive through their senses. If he can keep humans thinking about that ,they will never consider eternal spiritual realities and listen to God

Q

Describe the three major results of being unsatisfied with “the same old thing”

A

The dissatisfaction creates the desire for more of a thing while decreasing the pleasure a person can get out of it . This excess twists natural pleasures into something illegitimate as they overrun Gods boundareies

This can distract people from real problems by focusing on what’s then fashionable to consider as the real problem

The desire for something new can become a philosophy all it’s own where anything new is automatically better , or “progressive”
