The Scientific Method (8th grade) Flashcards
State what you want to find out.
Step 1. Purpose (not problem!!!)
This is a prediction which explains what you think the outcome will be.
Step 2. Hypothesis
This is a LIST of all the materials needed for the experiment.
Remember the safety equipment!
Tell how many of each material you will use (ex: 3 beakers)
Step 3. Materials
This includes very specific steps stating how to preform the experiment.
Ex: First put your goggles on and cover the desk with newspaper.
Be specific!
Step 4. Procedure
Perform the experiment.
Step 5. Experiment
This is where you put the results in a chart, graph, or diagram.
Step 6. Data
This is written as a paragraph and includes the following:
- The overall outcome of the lab (What did you find out?)?
- State if your hypothesis was supported or not.
- State your data in sentences. Explain whatever was in your data chart, graph, etc. in sentences. Be specific!
- Name two changes that you can make to improve the experiment next time and WHY. Think about what you could do better next time! Do not say to use different materials that were not used in the lab.
