Who does Peter symbolize? What about peacock?
Peter symbolizes the brother while the peacock symbolizes Doodle.
Scarlet ibis vs. Doodle
The Scarlet Ibis was a exotic and graceful bird. But it was also a very delicate creature. The ibis was tumbling down the tree and was very uncoordinated. The Scarlet ibis symbolizes Doodle because Doodle’s disability makes him exotic but his imagination and innocence makes him a graceful being. However, he is also very fragile and delicate.
What does the scarlet ibis foreshadow?
The scarlet ibis foreshadows Doodle’s death. This is because when the scarlet ibis fell from the tree, it instantly became lifeless. When Doodle died, his body was also limp and lifeless. His body was also “stained red” like the scarlet ibis. Additionally, both the ibis and Doodle were weak and both of them died due to a heavy storm.
What is the theme of this story?
Pride can be both good and bad.
Why is that the theme?
Pride is shown to be a good thing when brother teaches Doodle how to walk but it’s negative consequences are shown when it leads to Doodle’s death.
