Virtual Assistant (VA)
Any type of remote assistant who provides administrative, creative or technical support services for online or brick-and-mortar business owners.
Adwords
Google Adwords program offers small business the ability to run ads on the Google search network.
Affiliate Marketing
This is when you get paid a commission when a scale is made. As an affiliate, you are essentially providing a service for the merchant where you help them promote their products and services in exchange for a portion of the sale.
Alogorithms
A computerized process for running calculations. In online business you’ll commonly hear about algorithms in regards to search engine updates.
Autoresponder
A program that automatically sends out a response. So when you send a request through a web form or helpdesk, you may get a reply back that says something like ‘thank you for your request we will try to reply within 24 hours’….
Automation
Term used to talk about things that happen automatically without having to manually do anything.
Example: When someone purchases a digital product there is an automation to send a Thank You email and to send them the digital item.
B2B - Business to Business
Refers to the selling from one business to another business.
B2C - Business to Customer
Refers to the selling from a business to an individual customer.
Barter
To trade or exchange a service for something other than money (their services, a testimony, etc.)
Blogroll
A list (usually in the sidebar) where the owner of the blog lists out other sites or blogs they like and read.
Bots
Any automated software that performs an automated task typically uses on websites and social media for automatic replies.
Bounce Rate
The bounce rate of website is the percentage of visitors who only view one page and then leave the site. So visitors only visit one page (also known as the entry page) and then move off the site (also known as bounce).
Browser
A software application that displays files form the Internet. You need a web browser to surf (or browser)
Call-To- Action
Used in business as part of a marketing strategy to get your target market to respond by taking action. It’s generally used at the end, or sometimes throughout a sales pitch, to let potential clients and customers know what to do next if they’re interested in what you offer.
Click- Through Rate
The number of visitors who click on a link, banner ad, or form. It’s often called the click-through rate (CTR).
