- The government of the Weimar Republic signed the armistice with Allies and agreed to stop fighting
What was the Treaty of Versailles?
The Treaty of Versailles was the most important of the peace treaties that brought an end to WW1. The Treaty ended the state of war between Germany and Allied Powers.
What is an armistice?
Agreement between enemies in war to stop fighting so they can discuss peace terms.
What did the countries which won want from Germany?
They wanted revenge and wanted Germany to pay for the damage caused to their countries during the war.
Who won WW1?
USA ,France and Britain.
What 5 things did the Treaty say was to happen to Germany?
- The Terms Of the Treaty were dictated to Germany.
- Germany had to pay for the cost of the war. They had to pay millions in reparations for the cost of the damage of the war.
- Germany lost land.
- Germany also had to admit that it was to blame for the war, by signing the War Guilt Clause.
- Germany was not allowed to build up a defense force again.
What is reparations?
Amount of money for damages paid by losing nation to the winners.
What is a Republic?
A form of government whose head of state is not a king or queen, but a president.
