The rest Flashcards
Abiotic Factor
Nonliving thing in an ecosystem
Biodiversity
Many different living things in an ecosystem
Ecology
The study of relationships between organisms in ecosystems
Biology
The study of living things
Ecosystem
Environment where living and nonliving things interact and depend on each other
Ripple Effect
Series of effects that can result from a simple change
Biotic Factor
living things in an ecosystem that rely on each other and abiotic factors
Species
Living organisms that can breed and produce fertile young
Sun
Source of all the energy in the world
Community
A group of interacting species in an ecosystem
Population
Group of individuals of species within an area
Carrying capacity
number of organisms that a single ecosystem can hold without reducing its ability to support future generations
Exponential Growth
when a growth rate stays the same regardless of population amount, making the population grow faster as it gets larger
Logical Growth
when a population amount gets smaller and smaller as it gets closer to the maximum amount imposed by limiting factors
Invasive species
A species that does not naturally live in a specific area and throws off the balance, having a exponential growth pattern due to not having any predators.
ex. zebra muscles
Alien Species
A species that does not naturally live in a specific area or habitat but does not pose harm to it
Native Species
A species that naturally lives in a specific area or habitat, where it is meant to be
Parasite
When two or more species interact with each other but only one benefits
Mutualism
When two or more species interact and all benefit each other
Niche
A specific role in which a species or Organism excels in.
ex. Hyenas ecological niche is scavenging
Equilibrium
A sate of stability when the number of deaths is equal to the number of births
