Organs of the respiratory system
Nose Pharynx or throat Larynx or voice box Trachea or windpipe Bronchus Lungs Diaphragm Mediastinum
Mastication
The process of chewing our food
Epiglottis
A flap of cartilage that shuts over the larynx to keep the food from entering the lungs and moving toward the digestive system.
Aspiration
The process of inhaling food particles into the lungs.
Adenoids
Lymphoid tissue located behind the nasal cavity.
Tonsils
Lymphoid tissue located behind the mouth .
Pleura
Membranous lining which covers the lungs and thoracic cavity.
Mediastinum
Separation between both lungs. Heart, esophagus,trachea,are located here.n
Trachea
Carries the air to the two bronchi.
Bronchioles
First division of the bronchi .
Alveoli
Smaller division of the bronchi . Appear as small sacs on the end of the bronchioles. They work to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide.
