A group of eight verse lines forming the first part of a sonnet. Usually in the Italian and Petrarchan sonnet form

A group of six verse lines forming the second part of a sonnet

What is a Volta ?
A
Italian word for turn. In Petrarchan sonnets it’s between the octave and sestet. In English sonnets it’s before the final couplet
