The leader of the Roman Catholic Church was the pope
What was the reformation?
It was a religious and political change during the 16th century which would soon lead to the creation of the Protestant church
What does the term excommunication mean?
The term excommunication mean to be excluded from a church or a religious community
What were the aims of Martin Luther and John Calvin?
The aims were to create a more fair version of the Catholic Church, they succeed in creating an English version of the bible
What was the council of Trent?
The council of Trent was a council of church leaders which restated Catholic beliefs and removed some of the old abuses
What is a letter of indulgence?
A letter of indulgence is a letter that you could buy for yourself or even a dead person. It was believed that it would wipe away your sins and help you reach heaven
What is a false relic?
A false relic is anything that was thought to have religious value eg. a piece of wood from Jesus’ cross (it wouldn’t have lasted which makes it false)
