“Bust of Pallas” meaning in stanza 7?
“Pallas” refers to Pallas Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. The raven sits on Palla’s head and stands for calm, wisdom, and knowledge. The fact that the bird won’t leave the statue or sit anywhere else in the room shows that the speaker’s sadness is fixed and slowly stops him from thinking clearly.
“Night’s Plutonian shore” meaning in stanza 8 and 17?
which is a reference to Pluto, the Roman god of the underworld, the speaker indicates that the raven is a messenger from the dark underworld and actively connects it to death.
“Is there balm in Gilead?” meaning in stanza 15?
which means a medicine made from resin (the narrator needs to be healed after the loss of Lenore.)
