Martin Luther
He was a monk who drew up a list of arguments against the churches teachings/practices and nailed them to the door of the church. (95 theses)
Inquisition
An organization used to stop Heresy. They were given more power to question, torture, and kill enemies of the church
Erasmus
He tried to live as a monk when he was young but found he was not suited to life in a monastery. He was ordained as a priest, went to the university of Paris, studied Greek and Latin. He became famous for his learning and travelled to England where he met king Henry VIII. He wrote humorous books and taught to get more money. His books were about attacking the church, attacking the priests, cardinals, bishops, and even the pope. Never considered a heretic
John Calvin
He was a french Lawyer who also set up a Christian state in the city of Geneva, Switzerland.
Jesuits
Ignatius Loyola organized the society of Jesus- The Jesuits- to protect the church and spread the Catholic messages.
