Here are the rules:

1 - Even though there are -ar, -er, -ir ending verbs, there is just one set of conjugations for all three infinitives.

2 - the stems of these verbs are irregular. NOTE: IT IS NOT THE SAME AS STEM CHANGING VERBS.

Here are the conjugations for all infinitives, for the irregular stem/conjugation verbs in the preterit:

yo > -e

tú > -iste

usted, él, ella > -o

nosotros, nosotras > -imos

ustedes, ellos, ellas > ieron

NOTE: DECIR AND TRAER USE > -ERON
