whilst both writers explore ideas about the power of naturem storm on the island has more of an effect due to its real life effects on their ability to live whereas the prelude is more of an isolated phsycolgival battle amongst himself

difference

A
  • where the prelude is phsycological, due to the less abrasive threat, storm on the island is physical due to its real life ability to destroy livliehoods.
  • the prelude shows an unsettling image which attracts empathy “a trouble to my dreams” yet the connotations of dreams are wrapped up and peacefull so the threat is made up
  • storm on the island physical image. “pummels” is aggressive and takes the reader aback

  • prelude places its trust in the more beautifull side of nature, questioning weather the writer did have religious trust where as a community the storm on the island are engulfed with fear.
  • prelude “glittering, sparkling” shows nature to be beautifull, like a child admires glitter. relates back to how isolated writer was as a child, and how he is more favourbale to nature as one due to his entrustment in it when sailing through the lake district as a child

  • prelude “upreared its head” is like a spot, connotations of spot
  • storm on the island “tame cat turned savage” such is the power of nature it outwits the power of humans who can undo their work to tame it. cat is aninalisitc symbolisation of natures power.
