^4 can also be held as the common tone when followed by V7
What is a Phrygian Half Cadence?
PD-D
Occurs in minor keys
One voice descends from ^6 to ^5
Soprano ascends from ^4 to ^5
How is the supertonic ii (ii* in minor) used in musical phrases?
Its a pre-dominant chord
Approaches V strongly via descending fifth
ii6 has ^4 in the bass, so it can resolve to ^5 by step
What allows for ^1 - ^2 - ^3 - ^4 - ^5 progression in the bass?
Predominant chords and inversions. Tonic is prolonged ^1 through ^3, the pre-dominant is introduced on ^4, then ^5 is dominant.

- Chordal skip in the bass (i.e. connects ii to ii6)
- passing I6 (create an embellishing chord on I6)
- the IV - ii pair
