Can police take your fingerprints if they believe you have committed a serious I crime?
Yes (but they must tell you why and for what offence)
Can police take body samples (hair, saliva) without your consent?
No, unless they have a court order
What happens once you are charged by the police?
You may be held in custody or released on bail
When would you receive a summons? And what does it tell you?
If you are charged and not taken to the police station you will revive a summons in the mail.
A summons tells you your charge and when to appear in court
