Explain the Lincolnshire risings
A
- cromwells unpopular visits to monasteries and seizure of church goods led to riot sin the Lincs
- Nicolas Melton led a hardcore of 20 men to seize representative of Bishop of Lincoln and the royal commission.
- October 3rd - crowd of 3000 advanced from south to capture commissioners.
- October 4th- 10000 rebels marched to Lincoln and attacked and murdered a rep of the bishop

A
- army under Duke of Suffolk dispatched
- arrived after the rebellion was over but kings response was no negotiation and treated to be treasonous
- local gentry encouraged people to disperse

- Norfolk sent to disperse rebels and despite military experience and an army of 8000 he decided to negotiate.
- rebels felt they could trust Norfolk (due to amicable grant).
- rebels were assured Norfolk would request parliament to discus that dissolution should be suspended
- aske was invited to court and beleieved he had won a victory.

- despite promised from the king nothing happened and the rebels had no way of compelling Henry
- in the north some came to realise they had been duped
