1st -11th October 1536 a rising in Lincolnshire was sparked by the closure of the monasteries and the enforcement of religious change
10,000 people assembled in Lincoln
2nd Oct to 8th Dec most of the North was in open rebellion against Henry with 40,000 men getting involved, at this point the King had an army of 8000.
capture Pontefract Castle, the most important castle in the North, because Lord Darcy handed it over - he pretended to be on the King’s side but surrendered hastily.
In January 1537 unsatisfied rebels again rose up, led by Francis Bigod
aske executed. along with 178 rebels in july 1537
