- Cognitive deficit: poorer maths ability (spatial/ numerical deficits) leads to maths anxiety
- Debilitating anxiety: high anxiety leads to poorer maths learning, which leads to maths anxiety

A
Directional = predicts the specific direction in which the effect occurs non-directional = no direction given, just told a difference will be found
