The Pelvis Flashcards
How many bones are in the pelvis?
4 bones
What are the 4 shapes of pelvis?
Gynecoid, Android, Anthropoid, and Platypelloid
What is the shape of the gynecoid pelvis?
round
What is the shape of the android pelvis?
kidney bean/heart
What is the shape of the anthropoid pelvis?
superior/inferior (tall) oval
What is the shape of the platypelloid pelvis?
lateral (long) oval
Where is the coccyx?
The very end of the tail bone
What is the sacrum?
It is the large heavy bone at the base of the spine
What is the acetabulum?
The socket where the femur connects to the pelvis
The Lumbosacral joint is?
The joint between the last vertebra (L5) and the sacrum.
What is the Sacrococcygeal joint?
The joint consists of an intervertebral disc between the sacrum and coccyx
What is the false pelvis?
The measurement of the outside of the pelvis.
What is the true pelvis?
The interior space that a baby travels through to be born.
What is the ilium?
The large smooth bone that forms the upper part of each side of the pelvis.
What is the lilac crest?
The top ridge of the pelvis above the ilium.
What is the ischium?
The curved bone forming the base of each half of the pelvis.
What is the ischial spine?
the pointed part of the ischium bone. typically the most narrow part of the birth canal.
What is the pubic bone?
It is the bone in the middle of the hip, between the ischium and ilium. It can be felt externally under the belly.
What is the pelvis’ job?
Stability, weight distribution, anchor point for all muscles and ligaments, protects baby.
What are the innominate bones?
Illiam and ischium
What is the tuberocity?
The ‘sits’ bones
What is the pubis?
A pad of ligament with bones that butt up to it.
What are the 3 conjugates of the pelvis?
Anatomical, diagonal, and obstetrical.
How do you measure the anatomical conjugate?
from the top of the pubic bone to the sacrum.
How do you measure the diagonal conjugate?
from the bottom of pubic bone to sacrum (you can feel it)
How do you measure the obstetrical conjugate?
from the middle of the pubic bone to the sacrum
What are the 3 motivators of birth?
The passage, the passenger, and the powers.
What is the WHO’s cesarean rate limit?
15%
How many subcategories of pelvis’ are there?
12
What is the OFP of the android pelvis?
OP or OA baby, easy to get in the birth canal, harder to get out.
What is the OFP of the platapoid pelvis?
baby must enter transverse
