Why did the riots happen?
On 14th June a treaty was agreed to grant most of the peasant’s wishes. Most left the city but some remained and went to the Tower of London and executed the Archbishop of Canterbury, the treasurer and John of Gaunt’s Doctor.
What happened after the execution of the Archbishop of Canterbury?
Riots
What happened at Smithfield?
There were thought to be 100,000 rebels in London. When Richard and Wat Tyler arrives at Smithfield, Tyler was killed.
What happened after Wat Tyler was killed?
The rebels were furious but Richard challenged them and asked if they would kill their king
What did Richard say when he arrived?

What happened after Richard’s promise?
The king broke his promises. The rebels were rounded up and killed. John Ball was executed and his head was put in a spike at London bridge.
