The particle theory of matter Flashcards
What are substances made up of?
All substances are made up of particles.
What are the three states of matter?
The three states of matter are :
Solid
liquid
gas
What is the particle theory?
The particle theory explain the behavior of a substance in the three stats of matter.
Explain using the particle theory the solid state of matter.
When a substance is in its solid state, the particles touch and are in a regular pattern. the particles are strongly attracted to each other. They don’t move around, but vibrate on the spot.
what is an example of a solid state?
Ice is water in the solid state.
explain using the particle theory the liquid state .
When a substance is in its liquid state the particles move around, in and out of each other. the particles are strongly attracted, but are not in a regular pattern.
give an example of a substance in liquid state.
Water is in liquid state.
