Why do the Socs and Greasers have a rivalry?

Their crimes are born out of their poverty and are punished

- Ponyboy thinks that Darry does not care about him. Darry says Ponyboy never uses his head. Darry is the one who is responsible for everything so he worries a lot. BUT, at the hospital Darry is crying because Ponyboy is hurt. Then Ponyboy realizes that Darry really loves him.
Why is Ponyboy sort of an outsider of the Greasers?
6.Why is Ponyboy sort of an outsider of the greasers?
Ponyboy read books, goes to the movies by himself, and he doesn’t talk much. He is sensitive in a soft way. He is a deep thinker. He doesn’t try to get in trouble. He makes good grades and likes school. He is “inside himself and outside the group”.
Hinton mentions sunsets a lot in the first few chapters-what do they represent?
7.Cherry digs sunsets and so does Ponyboy. They represent a better future. They represent deep thinkers of the groups. They represent that Socs and greasers ALL LIVE IN THE SAME WORLD AND LOOK AT THE SAME SUNSET!! (they are connected)
How is Dally different from the other Greasers?
8.Dally is tough and no one wants to mess with him because he has been to jail and is hardened on the inside–or at least pretends to be. He doesn’t feel or really seem to care. BUT he does care about Johnny and Ponyboy.
