The OSI Model Flashcards
1
Q
The OSI Model
A
The OSI (Open Systems Interconnection)
model is a conceptual framework that standardizes the functions of a communication system into seven distinct layers. When you load a simple webpage over the internet, each layer plays a role in delivering the content to your device.
The OSI model can get really complex, so at the very least, just do your best to memorize the order and gain a very basic understanding of the layers.

Q
OSI Model and Interviewing
A
- What is the OSI model and why is it important in networking?
- Can you briefly describe the purpose of each layer in the OSl model?
- How do the Transport Layer and Network Laver differ in their responsibilities?
- What are some common protocols associated with the Application Layer, and what are their primary functions?
- Can you explain how data encapsulation works in the context of the OS model?
- What is the role of the Physical Layer in data transmission, and what are some examples of
Physical Layer technologies? - How does the Data Link Layer ensure reliable and error-free communication between devices on a local network?
- In the OSI model, which layer is responsible for routing data between devices on different networks, and what is an example of a related protocol?
- Can you describe how the Session Layer manages connections between devices during communication?
- Why is the Presentation Layer important for ensuring proper data formatting and compatibility between different systems?
