introspection is a psychological method which involves analysing your own thoughts and feelings internally.
- wundt used introspection to study sensation and perception.
limitations of introspection
- does not explain how the mind works. usually focuses on internal thoughts and feelings so it is not objective.
- doesnt provide a reliable data as people are reporting their own experiences.
reductionism
reductionism is the idea that things can be reduced to simpler cause and effect processes.
features that makes something a science
objectivity, control, predictabilty, falsifiability, hypothesis testing and reolication.
objectivity
scientific observations should be recorded without bias and shouldnot be influenced by any other factors.
control
scientific observations should take place under conrolled observations.
predictability
scientists should be able to use the results and knowledge gained from experiments to predict future behaviour.
