pride is a positive trait that refers to the satisfaction one has in themselves or their achievements. Hubris is overconfidence and overestimation of oneself and arrogance.

the old man is still being dragged by the fish
- the old man caught a dolphin and is planning to eat it
- the marlin jumped out of the water

- the old man finally catches the fish
- the old man is proud of himself
- Santiago ties the fish to the side of the boat

- Santiago killed a shark that had almost eaten his fish
- two other sharks came near the boat and took more bites of the fish
- a shovel nose shark comes and Santiago hits it with a knife attached to his oar

- Another group of sharks come and Santiago fights them, but most of the fish are gone
