Mischievous daughter of Atlas who holds Odysseus captive on her Island.
Charybdis
This was a sea monster. The whirlpool. Considered a great hazard to ships.
Circe
Goddess with lovely hair who turns men into pigs.
Elpenor
Member of Odysseus’ crew who dies falling from a roof.
Eumaeus
Odysseus’ swineherd. Protected most of his wealth.
Eurycleia
Faithful servant who raised Telemechos and loves him as a son.
Eurymachos
One of the men trying to marry Penelope.
Hades
The home of the dead, located beneath Earth.
Hermes
Zeus’ messenger, sent to tell Calypso to free Odysseus.
Homer
Author of the Odyssey. Born in Greece.
Laertes
Odysseus’ father
Menelaus
Ruler of Lacedaimon who has recently returned from abroad; Helen’s husband.
Penelope
Odysseus’ wife and Telemechos’ mother. Wise, faithful, beautiful.
Polyphemus
Poseidon’s son. A cyclops. Odysseus blinded him.
Poseidon
God of the sea. He held a grudge against Odysseus because he blinded his son.
Scylla
The six headed monster who ate six of Odysseus’ men.
Sirens
Half bird, half women who sang sweet songs that lured men to them to their death.
Telemechos
Odysseus’ son. Handsome, loyal to his father, looks like a young god.
Tiresias
The soul of the blind seer Odysseus visits.
