What is a Unionist
People who believed that NI should remain part of the U.K, mostly Protestants
What is a Nationalist
People who believe that NI should leave the U.K and join with the Republic of Ireland to create a United Ireland, mostly Roman Catholic
Who could vote in NI
Rate payers, people who owned a house. This was unfair as Unionists were put ahead of Nationalists on the housing ladder
What is Gerrymandering
It was the redrawing of electoral boundaries to keep areas out of Nationalist control
What did NICRA stand for
The Northern Ireland Civil Right movement
What was the 5 point reform programme
It was a programme given to NICRA by Terence O’Neill in Feb 1967
What did the 5 point reform programme entail
Voting- everyone over 18 was allowed to vote, and removed more than 1 vote for a person
Housing- fair allocation of council housing based on need
Gerrymandering- and end to the practise
Gov. jobs- fair allocation
